Where to Buy College Essentials in Paris

When you move into your Comforts of Home apartment, you’ll find all the basic kitchenware and housewares: pots, pans, dishes, cutlery, storage space, hangers, and more. But many students decide to buy complementary items to give themselves additional storage, to fulfill their specific needs, or to decorate their space and make it their own. Paris won’t have the same stores you’re used to at home, but fortunately there are many options for purchasing everything a student needs to personalize her or his Parisian apartment. Here are our recommendations of where to shop for college essentials in Paris.

Conforama. This store, with three locations in Paris, has all your housing essentials at a reasonable price. We especially recommend Conforama for storage solutions: underbed storage, extra hangers, boxes, bins, closet accessories to optimize your space—they have it all!

Monoprix. Located all over Paris, Monoprix is something like Target in the US. You can buy your groceries here, but in the bigger stores you can also buy clothing, bath and beauty items, and housewares. Besides being a great place to buy household basics, you’ll also find lots of items to decorate your space.

Leroy Merlin. This hardware store also has many items to accessorize your home. At any of their three locations in Paris, you’ll find many different storage items, picture frames, decorative cushions, a selection of houseplants, and more. They have specialized staff for each department, so there will always be someone there to help you find exactly what you need.

Darty. This is your go-to place for everything electronic, and they are known for great customer service. American appliances like hair dryers won’t work in France, and Darty is the perfect store to find a European replacement. They also have all kinds of kitchen appliances. Can’t live without your blender, espresso machine, or ice cream maker? Darty has it all!

Habitat.jpg

Habitat. This store, which has several locations around Paris, specializes in furniture, but they also have a wide range of housewares: decorative items, dishes, and kitchenware. Habitat is more upmarket, but this is the place to go if you want something more chic and design.

Hema is a Dutch chain that came to France a few years ago. They have plenty of items for college students: notebooks, binders, pens, etc.; housewares; decorative items and more, all inexpensive and with a touch of design.
